A. —Qui a un profil déterminé. Ses traits étaient fins et profilés comme ceux d'une Arlésienne (BOREL, Champavert, 1833, p.45).
B. —TECHNOL. Qui a été conçu au tracé et fabriqué selon un profil déterminé. Aile profilée; acier profilé. Une machine de course de 30 chevaux, profilée en forme de cigare et chaussée de pneus (P. ROUSSEAU, Hist. transp., 1961, p.482). L'industrie métallurgique, avec ses laminoirs à tôle profilée (P. ROUSSEAU, Hist. techn. et invent., 1967, p.293).
III. —Subst. masc., MÉTALL. Pièce métallique laminée, fabriquée avec un profil déterminé et de section uniforme, notamment pour obtenir une très grande résistance avec un poids très léger. Profilés métalliques; profilé en alliage léger; profilé à chaud, à froid; profilé d'aluminium; profilés en I, en U, en H, en T, en Z. Une fabrication d'articles peu nombreux de même genre, et différenciés par des caractéristiques soutenant la comparaison comptable; exemple: des profilés de plusieurs dimensions (VILLEMER, Organ. industr., 1947, p.225).
